Blogging For Small Business
Success
All small businesses need a web presence of some sort. It's
become as expected as a telephone number and can be remarkably
valuable even in industries where you wouldn't think high-tech
efforts would work.
One can create a web presence with little more than a single
page, static site in some cases. On the other end of the
spectrum, some businesses will need extensive, professionally
designed sites with every new bell and whistle in order to
succeed.
The extent of one's online efforts needs to be guided by the
overall business plan and the exact nature of the
enterprise.
If you have a need for more than a slight presence online and
aren't already doing so, it is time to add a blog to your
online marketing arsenal.
For those who aren't familiar, a blog (short for web-log) is
sort of an online journal. Generally, information is presented
in a chronological order and is used to provide insight and
news to visitors.
Blogs are extremely popular, in part, because they are so easy
to operate. It might be difficult for a novice user to dig into
his or her web site's HTML code and change things around, but
blogs are built on platforms that allow for easy, quick content
input.
The marketing advantages of blogging are numerous.
First, blogs allows business owners to communicate directly to
potential customers in a very personal fashion. A good blog can
give a business some personality, increasing its recognition
and inspiring warm sentiments. In a world where business has
become increasingly cold and calculating, honest communication
from a small business owner can be very effective.
Second, blogs allow you to provide new information to visitors
instantly. Keeping people informed is a cinch when you're
blogging. You don't have to deal with calling your designer to
make changes if you aren't a hands-on computer person. You
don't have to tinker with HTML or re-upload pages if you are a
do-it-yourselfer. It's incredibly convenient.
Third, it provides another "virtual billboard" upon which you
can display your message. Remember, the experts know that most
people don't make a purchase until they've been exposed to a
product and/or its advertising copy several times. Adding a
blog to your online arsenal creates another opportunity to
hammer your story home.
Fourth, blogging helps support your primary "profit pages."
Your blog will serve as a conduit directly to your main site,
where you are probably planning to generate most of your
money.
Fifth, a good blog can do some wonderful things in terms of
getting new customers and visitors from the search engines.
Google and other search engines love blogs due to their
content-rich nature and streamlined, spider-friendly design. A
blog might be the perfect way to do some marketing
outreach.
