The Relationship Between Stress and Time Management
Stress and time management are more closely related than many of us like to believe. In fact, it is the lack of
time management that produces much of the stress we face in our daily lives. It stands to reason then that the
better we are at managing our time, the less stress we will have to deal with.
Stress is a fact of life and will not be completely eliminated regardless of how well we manage our time yet stress
and time management have such a close correlation that it is prudent to look at the role time management plays when
we think about the stress in our daily lives.
One of the stressors in the lives of millions of people is the feeling of not having enough time to do all the
things we want or need to do. We are constantly rushed and millions of us are still late to appointments, work and
church. Interestingly enough, the millions of people who are consistently on time have the same amount of time
delegated to them as those who are consistently tardy.
Stress and time management classes are fascinating studies in the many ways we bring stress into our lives and how
easy it is to rid ourselves of much of the stress we face on a daily basis. When we manage our time efficiently, we
don't have to look for important papers at the last minute, we don't pay late charges because we forgot to pay a
bill and we don't suffer the embarrassment of being late all the time.
All of those things are stressful and stress can and does lead to sicknesses such as ulcers, headaches, aches and
pains all over the body and fatigue. One of the most basic stress and time management techniques is simply writing
things down; keeping lists. It causes an incredible amount of stress when we constantly try to remember things that
we could dismiss from our minds if we would just make a list. How many of us lie in bed at night going over all the
things we have to remember to take care of the following day when it would be so easy to make a list and let it go
for the moment.
The level of stress and time management can be improved by other basic tasks that take just minutes yet save hours
in worry and aggravation. Little things like keeping a list on the refrigerator for everyone to add to, taking the
trash out of the car each time we get out of it and scheduling time for ourselves.
For the work at home mom, managing stress and time management tactics go hand in hand and will have a huge bearing
on how successful she is. While it will take time and hard work to make it work, the efficient work at home mom
should try to keep a regular schedule while allowing for flexibility when it is truly needed.
Reducing stress and time management also means realizing that we can't do it all. This is something that is
difficult for many women to admit yet by declaring our priorities, we will actually get more done than if we hop
from one thing to another trying to do everything. By managing stress and time management successfully, we will
have set our goals in motion and are on our way to a more rewarding and healthy life.
Stress and time management success is a process that is very rewarding once we're able to decide just which goals
and priorities are worth our time and which ones we have to let go.
