Ten Time Management
Tips
If there were only ten time management tips I could give you
they would be those that are listed below.
1) Avoid procrastination like the plague. This may
seem like a simple tip but it is important enough to make my
top ten time management tips list. The reason is that we often
invent or create work that doesn't need to be done while
procrastinating. By doing this we are not only avoiding the one
task that must be done eventually but we are putting other
tasks that come after this one behind schedule. Tackle the
tough problems or projects first in order to get them over with
and move on with your day.
2) Organize your home and your life. Organization
is one place where most of us lose countless hours of time each
year. If you are constantly sifting through baskets of laundry
(waiting to be folded) in order to find one clean sock to mate
to another, you are wasting time. For the second of my ten time
management tips; learn to work a load of laundry into your
daily routine so that it doesn't have the tendency to pile up.
Put your keys in one spot each day, make sure that all papers,
files, homework, notes to teachers, etc. are where they need to
be at night before turning in so that they will be in place and
ready to go in the morning.
3) Learn to prioritize. This is on my top ten time
management tips list because it's just that important. Learn
what is important to you and make those things your
priority.
4) Learn to say no. This is another important task
on my ten time management tips list and goes hand in hand with
prioritizing. There are times in life when it is okay to back
cookies for the bake sale but not work the bake sale. There are
clubs and organizations that you will simply need to drop
membership in order to free up time for those things that are
more important.
5) Take small steps. Far too many people decide to
employ better time management strategies into their lives and
dive right in. This can be overwhelming. For this reason my
number five of ten time management tips is to take small steps
toward your goal and add new steps as you go.
6) Learn to identify your time management
problems. Knowing where the problems lie is a great tool in
correcting those problems.
7) Delegate. This one is hard for so many of us
but at some point in time we are going to have to begin
delegating responsibility to others in order to save our time
and our sanity. This makes the top ten time management list
because it is a necessary step and should not be undervalued in
its effect.
8) Establish a routine. This is probably the most
powerful of my ten time management tips. Routines may be a
little rough in the beginning but over time they become habits
positive time management habits in your life are wonderful
things to have.
9) Use tools to assist you. There are all kinds of
time management tools on the market today. Many of them are
quite effective when they are put to good use.
10) Use all of your time wisely. There are the
inevitable moments that will be spent waiting on meetings to
begin, waiting in the doctor's office, etc. Use this time to
pay your bills, read and review reports from work, set up
appointments for your children, etc.
I hope you find that these ten time management tips will prove
quite beneficial in your life and career.
