Time Management
System
Time management system is actually a self-management system.
The objective of time management system is not to become
super-efficient or super-productive but to use time to achieve
one’s objectives- to work smarter, not harder, as the saying
goes.
Many stumbling blocks exist in gaining control of time. For
example, a manager’s job prescribes the tasks or goals he or
she needs to perform or achieve while those that the individual
wants to perform or achieve are imposed by his or her own value
system. They relate to the person’s goals.
The value of time management system lies in the fact that
people have too many tasks they need to do but not enough time
for the things that they want to do. A proper time management
system in place helps identify the needs and wants in terms of
their importance and matches them with time and other
resources.
The time available to executives and managers has become so
critical that many companies now consider executive time as the
decisive criterion for entering new ventures rather than only
the return on investment. Time management system consists of
the functions of planning, organizing, actuating and
controlling. The management of time is located within the
function of controlling. Further reflection on this leads to
the conjecture that the management of time, per se, is a
process itself, which consists of the functions of planning,
organizing and controlling. That is, to manage one’s time
entails planning and organizing for its efficient use as well
as controlling its use.
There is a multitude of time management system which can be
implemented to improve the quality of time use. Examples of
these systems are: what type of desk you use, how to set up a
good filing system, how to set up a good information retrieval
system, and a host of other time and work-saving devices. These
time management systems, however, must be set up according to
the purpose and type of organization and the individuals who
use them.
But far more important than any system is the recognition of
the importance of good time management and the goals and
objectives that can be reached by both the individual and the
organization.
The time management system says that there are five major
arrears which are imperative to improving the management of
time. First, the realization that the way we spend our time is
largely habitual in nature; second, that setting personal goals
is crucial to proper time management; third, priorities must be
categorized and evaluated; fourth, proper communications are
essential to good use of time; fifth, procrastination is
probably the largest obstacle to time management.
You have to be in control of your life if you are to manage
your time effectively. A well-organized life leaves time for
everything, for planning, doing and follow-through. Time is not
used up in regretting or in trying to live life retroactively,
or in explaining why something needed has not been done.
Learn to use good time management practices to improve your use
of time. The actual reason why we want to manage our time
effectively is to lead a satisfying and enriching life.
According to the time management system, you can accomplish
more and have more satisfaction from what you are doing once
you learn to use your time judiciously. And with the increase
in the sense of accomplishment and satisfaction your quality of
life also increases. You must believe that your time is your
life and you are wasting your life if you are wasting your time
and you are in control of your life if you are in control of
your time.
